Yesterday was filled with unexpected sweet things. I spent the afternoon taking the baby to a local conservatory with tons of tropical plants, waterfalls, little quails on the ground and bright yellow parakeets flying around, flowers and koi fish. It was such a sweet time. Baby just looked around taking in all the sights and sounds. It was warm and humid and smelled like growing things. It was also funny saying hi to all the little kids (and one older woman in a wheelchair) who thought baby was so fascinating, and watching him watch them back! Made us both happy being there.
Then I came home to a save-the-date for a wedding of an old employer. I spent a summer as an intern on a flower farm, living in this giant old farmhouse and having a blast with the other interns and spending the days working in the sun cutting flowers. Best summer of my life. Sun and gorgeous, sumptuous flowers and farmers markets and tequila shots while making bouquets and did I mention FLOWERS? The owner of the farm is this old hippie-ish man and he’s getting married on the farm! Made my night.
AND THEN. I texted two of my intern friends from that summer about the upcoming wedding and guess what? My two friends had gotten engaged THAT MORNING! In the tulip patch!!! They met on the farm as interns and have been dating ever since. If that isn’t the cutest thing you have ever heard than I’m pretty sure your heart is shrunken like the Grinch’s. Very rarely lately have I been excited about engagements and impending weddings, because A) I feel like we’re all so young! B) the Facebook newsfeeds are getting a little ridiculous (engaged! married! baby number 1! baby number 2! I’M TOO YOUNG FOR THIS) and C) let’s face it, I’m a little jealous. But seriously y’all, this is one of those couples that when you see them together, you just hope and pray that you can have a relationship like that one day. And did I mention he proposed IN THE TULIP PATCH???
Ok sorry guys. This post is all over the place but I’m just so happy. A bright spot in the January blues I’ve been feeling lately.
In honor of flowers and weddings, some of my fave inspirations for those things (again, from my Pinterest boards, because I’m addicted):
